Lake Murray Real Estate Update 10-03-2011

Midlands Striper Club announces tourney results - The Midlands Striper Club held a tournament Sept. 17 on Lake Murray with the weigh-in taking place at Jakes Landing. Although the windy conditions were difficult, the fish were plentiful and aggressive. The surface water temperature in the lower end of the lake dropped nearly 5 degrees from 83 to 77 in three days prior to the tournament as the chill of an early fall descended on the lake. The fishing was outstanding as 32 anglers competed to weigh a total of 85 striped bass. Each angler was allowed to weigh his or her three largest fish. Top honors went to Joby Wetzel of Columbia. Wetzel caught the tournaments biggest fish at 12 lbs. 10 oz. and his 3 fish creel weight was 21 lbs. 5 oz. Second place went to new MSC member Daniel Powell of Lexington with a total of 20 lbs. 4oz. His father, Ted Powell assisted Daniel, a ten year old student at Lake Murray Elementary. Third place went to Joey Smoak of Lexington with 19 lbs. 1 oz.

Huffstetler, Sansbury win Mr. Lake Murray bass tourney – The Bass Federation of South Carolina hosted it’s annual “Mr. Lake Murray” Open Bass Tournament Sept. 24 at Dreher Island State Park. The format for the event is teams of two anglers per boat. It is open to all that wish to enter, not just TBF members. This year 47 teams entered. The largemouth are usually schooling this time of year chasing shad and herring to the surface, but the unsettled weather of the past week had the fishing off a bit from past years which proved to make if difficult for many teams. Early morning storms and heavy rains more than likely kept some competitors away.
